Civil Society Research Priorities in Iraq : a workshop hosted by IDRC, Amman, December 8 - 9, 2005; draft report

The workshop discussed current research and program priorities in Iraq and aimed to understand the challenges faced by the research community. A research agenda for Iraq is to be developed which focuses on themes identified for the Middle East Good Governance Fund (MEGGF). Three areas concerning civil society were addressed: the legal framework related to civil society organizations (CSOs) in Iraq; the relationship between civil society and communities and how they influence policy; and donor support for civil society. Participants did not want to deny the historical importance of tribal Iraq; however, they emphasized the need to build legal institutions

Climate Change and Water Program prospectus for 2010-2015

Simplified versionThe program encourages the development of specific research tools to cope with water related impacts of climate change and to build the research capacity needed to estimate and respond to risks created by climate change. It explores emerging links between climate change, energy, and water, to identify useful avenues of investment. Research will also be carried out on how information and communication technologies can support climate change adaptation

This report provides an introduction to five regional papers (West Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean) produced as part of the research initiative “Democratic Governance, Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.” While a variety of legal instruments commit the international community and individual states to uphold women’s rights, the commitments are not adequately acknowledged in national laws or practice. IDRC and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) commissioned a series of background papers to provide global data and analysis on how democratic structures are impacting women’s lives

Strengthening organizational capacity is a long-term endeavour. This report covers the first two years of the program, from its conception to the beginning of its implementation. It has provided long-term general support grants (“core funding”) and access to training and technical assistance to 52 policy research organizations in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Latin America. During its first two years, it focused on developing a fully-operational program and beginning to produce and share knowledge on this capacity building model for strengthening local research

Open data for development (OD4D) : annual report 2017-18

OD4D leverages a global network of regional hubs, expert advisors and global initiatives to use open data in generating greater accountability and transparency, locally-driven innovations, and better delivery of key public services in areas such as gender equality, education and health.
